ENERGY USE EFFICIENCY OF MELON (COLOCYNTHIS CITRULLUS) PRODUCTION UNDER DIFFERENT TILLAGE METHODS

Since mechanization is inevitable and isassociated with increase in productivity, there need to find the most appropriate tillage method crop production that minimizes energy consumption, enhance profitability reduce environmental damage from fossil fuel related emission. This research investigates use efficiency melon three methods (reduced, minimum maximum). Human power, machinery, diesel fuel, fertilizers, seed pesticides inputs were used during cultivation of melon. Input output analysis was quantify input each The indices determined are; efficiency, specific energy, net index. total required per hectare reduced, maximum 4528.29, 7191.07 8325.64 MJ/ha while found be 8112, 10404 10752 MJ/ha, respectively. estimated 1.79, 1.45 1.29 3583.71, 3212.93 2426.36 for methods, result revealed better than both reduced terms gain.
